The Gathering on again at New Year
For Generation Xers who had never heard of Ray Columbus or Max Merritt until last week, hope may be in sight. The annual 48-hour outdoor dance party, The Gathering, will happen again on Takaka Hill this New Year's Eve.
This year's Gathering, the fourth, has been described as among the "100 best millennium parties on the planet" by a British music magazine. Organisers said this year's party will include about 120 DJs, 50 live acts performing electronic music, 100 circus-type performers, 20 drummers, and 30 video jockeys. The Gathering attracted 4000 people in its first year. That number has doubled to 8000 in the last two years. Tickets for this year's event will go on sale today.
