Gathering future in doubt

TASMAN'S annual New Year's dance party the Gathering is on the brink of bankruptcy, chief executive Murray Kingi says.
An unnamed group had applied to have the Gathering put into liquidation, he said. "I am in the process of trying to fight that, but it is not looking very hopeful."
The Gathering's fate should be known by the end of the week.
Mr Kingi, sole director of the Gathering Company Ltd, said his options were to either talk the group out of its application or find some money.
The company owed more than $400,000 to creditors, but was owed about $700,000 from previous events, he said.
The company's dire financial position was the result of competition and a lack of numbers at last New Year's party. -- NZPA
