TRANCE NATION

RE:MIX magazine - October-November 1999

LIKE THE SONG SAYS, "WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND..." AND TRANCE IT SEEMS, HAS COME BACK 'ROUND AGAIN. EITHER SIDE OF THE ATLANTIC, IT'S BEEN HITTING HARD FOR THE LAST YEAR OR SO.

.......Leon [DJ Coda] feels it may be just a physical thing..... "I think if there were more of the big warehouse-type venues available, or if the climate was better for outdoor parties, then trance would have become a lot more established nationally than it did in the mid 90s. It suits the big space-big sound rig parties, but they just don't happen any more."...outside of The Gathering that is.

"The trance zone isn't the biggest one at The Gathering simply because of a hangover from the old Entrain days," says Gathering organiser Murray Kingi aka DJ Flux. "It just developed that way because right from the start, trance seemed to appeal to a wider set of people, even those who weren't into dance music could find something they liked in the trance zone. Plus, it's a good meeting place and you can happily dance to it in the burning sunshine."

Anyone that's ever heard one of Murray's last morning sets at The Gathering will testify to this. The atmosphere last year as he dropped Paul van Dyk's 'For an Angel' to a few thousand frazzled freaks (me included)... well, pathetic as it sounds, you really HAD to be there......
